Flower Petal Maxi Nightgown
A stunning, maxi length nightgown from Halston III. This pink satin slip features an allover pattern of flowers (they look like plumeria to me) and a gathered sweetheart neckline. Spaghetti straps are not adjustable, but could be hemmed. There are some minor pulls/snags to the fabric, common with satin, as seen in the last product image. This item features an ILGWU label, meaning it was made with care by women textile workers here in the USA.
In the mid 1980's, famed disco designer Halston signed a six-year contract with J.C. Penney to create a line of affordable pieces in his signature style - Halston III. This was one of the first times a high end designer chose to create garments for a mass retailer at a lower price point, and the choice was swiftly met with derision from the fashion industry. The collection was short lived and considered a failure, but would end up paving the way for a now common occurrence at major retailers worldwide.
17” wide at bust, 18” wide at waist, 52.5” long.
100% polyester. Made in the USA.
The International Ladies' Garment Workers' Union (ILGWU) was one of the largest labor unions in American history, and one of the first U.S. unions to have a primarily female membership. The ILGWU was a key player in the country’s labor history, particularly in the 1920s and 1930s.
